Maria Papanikolaou: Free from What
Maria Papanikolaou, a notable emerging artist of the local scene, claims that the works she is exhibiting constitute suggestions on how each and everyone of us can break the bonds that pin us down “in different states of unfreedom”. The monographic essay exhibition entitled Free from what, curated by Anna Kafetsi, is Papanikolaou’s first solo show in Greece. The exhibition's inward, intensely contemplative character, reflected in its ambiguous title, is revealed to us through three sculptural installations and two multi-channel video installations. The installations are displayed in a hardly noticeable constructive dialogue with one another which results in “a low-voiced poetic universe”. Along with the show, the artist will give a “Motivation” Talk - Performance at the Service Yard's Project Room of Megaron on September 16th, and October 5th, 14th and 29th at 5 - 7 pm. Make sure to catch at least one!
*The exhibition will remain closed from 26/7/23 to 4/9/23 and will reopen from 5/9 to 29/10/2023.
