Megaron Garden 2024: Recorded Performances and Concerts
For the third summer in a row, the Athens Concert Hall invites you to enjoy free world-class recorded performances and concerts under the stars. Yup, you got that right, it’s Megaron Garden season. Picture yourself in a garden in downtown Athens, relishing renowned orchestras, top-notch conductors, and famous performers. The Garden performances are globally sourced from classical music and opera powerhouses, and this year’s bill kicks off with Giacomo Puccini’s unfinished masterpiece Turandot. Recently presented at the Vienna State Opera, the dazzling lyrical drama features soprano Asmik Grigorian and tenor Jonas Kaufmann in the leading roles.
Next comes Klassik am Odeonsplatz, one of the top open-air classical music concerts in Germany, showcasing piano superstar Lang Lang and charismatic conductor Andrés Orozco-Estrada in a can’t-miss repertoire of great Romantic classics. July starts with another performance by Jonas Kaufmann, this time in the title role in Verdi’s Othello, the Shakespearean lyrical “psychological thriller” brimming with revenge, intrigue, and jealousy, once again filmed at the Vienna State Opera.
Then, enjoy the legendary violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter and her Virtuosi, an ensemble of her former scholarship holders, performing works by J. S. Bach, Vivaldi, Joseph Bologne, and André Previn. Whether you're a newcomer to these genres or a seasoned aficionado, the performances are guaranteed to captivate audiences amidst the enchanting garden ambiance.
