Memories Steeped in Dream
With the new temporary exhibition Memories Steeped in Dream, the B&E Goulandris Foundation introduces us to a largely unnoticed artistic practice, the art of the multiple, featuring 90 artworks by 8 praised artists from the 19th and 20th century. Here’s some name-dropping for you: Aristide Maillol, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Henri Matisse, Fernand Léger, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Joan Miró and Balthus. All the above collaborated with other artists, gallerists, and printmakers (such as Ambroise Vollard, Aimé, Marguerite & Adrien Maeght, Tériade, Fernand Mourlot and Suzanne Ramié,) in order to explore new creative methods and media.
The Art of the Multiple refers to artworks that are produced in editions or multiples, rather than one-of-a-kind pieces. This practice allows artists to produce and distribute their work widely, making it more accessible to a larger audience (for example the ready-mades of Marcel Duchamp).
The exhibition’s bilingual catalogue (Greek and English) is already available, while guided tours and creative workshops for children are planned for late September. The Museum also provides group and private guided tours in Greek or English upon request.
