Memory of Asia Minor / 1922
A hundred years after the Asia Minor Catastrophe, the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron) presents two concerts to commemorate this tragic event that changed the fabric of Greek society forever.
During the first one, titled Memory of Asia Minor, you will get to enjoy the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra which, led by renowned maestro Byron Fidetzis, presents three works by important Greek composers: Petros Petridis’ Byzantine Offering, Georgios Poniridis’ Three Greek Folk Songs, and extracts from Manolis Kalomoiris’ Captain Lyras’ Life and Longings.
Next up comes 1922, an evening dedicated to highlighting the rich heritage of the Greek community of Asia Minor. It’s that community that inspired exceptional symphonic works by Greek composers, including Manolis Kalomoiris (who was born in Smyrna), Petros Petridis, Konstantinos Kydoniatis, and our contemporary Dimitris Marangopoulos.
A free introductory speech an hour before the show is available for those ticket holders who want to delve deeper.
