Midnight Express 2023

Midnight Express invites all cinephiles to the beautiful open-air cinema Riviera in the bohemian neighbourhood of Exarchia for its autumn season. Brainchild of film critic Akis Kapranos, this popular series of late night movie screenings has gained a cult following and has helped revive movie theatres across the city, since its inception back in 2018. Film picks lean heavily on the fantasy/horror genre, but also include picks from obscure flicks, to animation, Greek cinema, indie gems and much more. Screenings used to start a bit after midnight (hence the name), but they’ve now been moved to 11 pm so that the audience can still catch the last metro home. Now, that’s thoughtful. September screenings have just been announced and are the following:

22/09: Tenebrae, Dario Argento, 1982
29/09: Prince of Darkness, John Carpenter, 1987
14/10: First Blood (Rambo), Ted Kotcheff, 1982
