#minaret by Omar Rajeh
Can an entire city just die? Taking with it all its values, history and culture? For a thousand years, the minaret of the Great Mosque in Aleppo rose over Syria’s largest city. Today it lies in ruins. The acclaimed Lebanese choreographer Omar Rajeh protests against the destruction of one of the oldest cities on Earth in a searing contemporary dance encounter that merges visual arts with the musical traditions of Aleppo. Rajeh also taps into memories of the destruction of his own home city, Beirut, connecting contemporary Aleppo with ravaged cities of the past.
