The Modern Evzones – Guardians of Tradition
If you’ve been to Athens, you’ve likely paused to watch the Evzones—Greece’s Presidential Guard—standing motionless at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier or performing their slow, synchronised march around Syntagma Square. Their presence is one of the city’s most iconic sights, blending precision, symbolism, and deep-rooted tradition.
This March, the Athens War Museum presents The Modern Evzones – Guardians of Tradition, an exhibition showcasing the work of Christiana Vasilas, one of the official photographers of the Presidential Guard of Greece. Over the past two years, she has captured powerful, never-before-seen moments of the Evzones in action—from their iconic changing of the guard to their presence at historic landmarks such as the Acropolis, the Presidential Mansion, and even New York’s Canyon of Heroes.
The opening reception and exhibition preview are free to attend, but an RSVP is required.
