Neapoly
The names of K.Bhta and Nikko Patrelakis might not ring a bell if you’re not familiar with Greek electronic music. The former is a founding member of groundbreaking 90s electronica duo Stereo Nova, who defined the aesthetics and sound of Athens for a generation. His collaborations and inspirations, to mention a few, include Haris Alexiou, Manos Hadjidakis, Mikis Theodorakis, Yannis Ritsos and many more. Patrelakis has been creating music and music-related imagery for the last 25 years. A producer, journalist and fierce music selector, his badges of honour include co-writing credits with Paul McCartney. Did we mention that they both soundtracked the 2004 Olympic Games?
Their previous collaboration, “The World is One”, based on Ritsos’ Nobel Prize nominated poetry, sold out every stage it went on. Their newest labour, Neapoly, is an audiovisual road trip through urban landscapes and the Greek countryside, soundtracked by experimental takes on ambient sounds and the early electronic productions of the 70s and 80s.
“We created this during these two years of the pandemic, as a constant reminder to ourselves that we are alive and we can still dream ahead”, Patrelakis shared on his social media. Why miss out on something this promising and hopeful?
