Never Cross the Same River Twice
"No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man." Heraclitus.
It's not only our own identities that are in constant flux, it's that of our surroundings as well. Heraclitus nailed it some couple of thousand years ago.
11 international and six Greek artists have been invited by Space52 to converse on the ancient philosopher's quote in the exhibition Never Cross the Same River Twice. Their expansive videographies form a cinematic narrative that comments on themes such as history, ancestry, ethnography, spirituality, memory, colonization, Afrofuturism, feminism, diaspora, identity, globalization, consumerism and myth. The exhibition, curated by French-Togolese independent curator Kisito Assangni and Greek-British curator Ariana Kalliga, will be accompanied by a parallel series of bi-weekly screenings and talks, including a night organized by the Athens School of Fine Arts (LAB12).
