What if the floor was indeed lava? Brazilian dancer Bruno Beltrão barely touches the ground as he performs spectacularly high jumps, handstands and combat-like embraces on stage in his latest work, New Creation. Along with Grupo de Rua, they dance through conflict and adversity and push back against the far-right policies of their home country’s government in a call for radical change.
Beltrão devoted himself to hip hop at a young age, then moved on to break it down to its bare essentials in his trailblazing performance H3, which secured him the first of his two Bessie awards.
