The Birds by Nikos Karathanos
Take flight from lounge room lockdown this Easter Sunday when Aristophanes’ eternal play, The Birds, lands on the Onassis Foundation’s We Stay Close, Not Closed virtual content platform. This powerhouse version by Nikos Karathanos premiered at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus in 2016 before winging it to Athens, New York and Chile, and was hailed by New York Magazine as among the ten best performances of 2018. Two years on, this timeless tale of two friends, Peisthetairos and Evelpidis, who crave the escape of a different life; a different state, makes a perfect cultural diversion in these socially-straitjacketed days. The Birds (Ornithes) will be available for free viewing for the first time, for just one week (until Sunday, 26 April at 21.00). Catch it before it heads for the open skies.
