Αthens Epidaurus Festival 2022: The Other Side of the Tempest
William Shakespeare: “What's past…”
Orson Welles: “... is prologue.”
Both: “Oh how cute, we finish each other's sentences.”
Not an actual conversation between the two creators, simply an imaginary one. That’s (our silly interpretation of) the context behind Yannis Houvardas’ new work, The Other Side of the Tempest - all part of this year’s Athens Epidaurus Festival. The notable Greek director and former artistic director of the National Theatre of Greece, fabricates a fortuitous encounter between the two great authors, placing Prosperos’ magical island in Hollywood and starring a brilliant, cross-generational cast of Greek actors, promising a “spectacular mixture of theatre and cinema”. We’re kinda sold.
With English subtitles.
