On-line: The adventures of the Parthenon marbles in modern times
From Lord Elgin’s controversial heist to journeys across storm-swept seas, the world-famous Parthenon marbles have known their share of adventures in modern times. The Acropolis Museum invites you to sit back and follow their action-packed trials and tribulations in an artful 20 minute bi-lingual video exhibition that will remain on-line for free viewing until the end of May. Starting from the first European traveler to study and make sketches of the Parthenon in 1436, to the removal of the last metope from the monument in 2012, the rich sculptural decorations of the Acropolis have ignited more interest over the centuries than any ancient Greek temple.
