The Past of the Future
Athens and the Acropolis. They’re joined at the hip in a way that few other cities and their headliner monuments are. Can you even imagine an Athens without it? Visible almost everywhere you go, the Parthenon is both artistic muse and the victim of endless commercialisation. This free group exhibition at the Kalfayan Gallery in Kolonaki side-steps the “folkloric and narrow-minded idolization” of the Acropolis to explore the socio-political dynamics of this ancient totem of classical spirit and democracy. In what ways is the Parthenon imprinted on the Greek Psyche? And how could it be re-packaged for modern times? We're intrigued.
