Αthens Epidaurus Festival 2022: The Persians
The Persians, the earliest surviving ancient Greek tragedy - and one of the loudest laments against war - returns to its natural place: the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus under the direction of Dimitris Karantzas. The prominent Greek director commands a top-notch cast as it participates in a public debate about communal grief and the tremendous consequences of war. Sorely relevant, Aeschylus’ play is a great entryway to introducing oneself to the Greek playwright who was, uncommonly, inspired for this one by historic facts (the Battle of Salamis, 480 B.C.)
With English subtitles.
