Picasso and Antiquity
In the words of Picasso: “The art of the Greeks is not an art of the past; perhaps it is more alive today than it ever was.” The great 20th century artist took fierce inspiration from the artwork of antiquity. Witness his fascination in a rare exhibition of Picasso’s drawings, engravings and pottery, fired by the Creto-Mycenaean and Greek worlds. The pieces depict marine creatures, animals, human figures, mythological spectacles, and scenes provoked by ancient tragedy and comedy. Make sure to lean in close. You might just hear them converse with the ancient artefacts around them during this latest episode of the Museum of Cycladic Art’s Divine Dialogue series.
