Postmodern Jukebox
Covering a song can be a tricky business. It can go really well, or really, really badly. Song covers that sound like the original are even worse, they're just karaoke on tape. But what if there was a particular thematic approach to it? Enter Postmodern Jukebox. The music collective has been around since 2009 and is known for covering songs in various vintage music styles, mainly jazz and swing. What started out as private jam sessions in Scott Bradlee's living room, is now a rotating band with more than 70 members, over a billion YouTube views and millions of subscribers. Radiohead, Talking Heads, Britney Spears, Outkast, David Bowie, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, Billy Idol and dozens of other artists have been covered by PMJ. The question is, though; does it work? Check in at Fuzz and see for yourself (yes, it most certainly does.)
