Powder her Face
Snobbery and sex are the main ingredients in this scandal-soaked opera based on the life of the disgraced Duchess of Argyll, Margaret Campbell. Dubbed “a Don Juan among women”, the Duchess shocked England in 1963 when explicit details of her inter-marital excesses came to light via her divorce proceedings from the Duke (Google it people, we’re a PG website). Three decades later, Grammy-winning musician and composer Thomas Adès came along and turned the whole hot mess into a critically-acclaimed opera that’s become a modern classic. See what all the fuss is about when Powder her Face has its Greek premiere at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, courtesy of the Greek National Opera. And you thought The Crown was saucy.
