Prometheus
“To live is to devour light and darkness, every minute.”
Acclaimed artist Nikos Karathanos presents his spin on “Prometheus Bound” -Aeschylus’ 4th century BC tragedy that unfolds among immortals - by using his own words to mythologize daily life.
“I’ve always tried to understand how pain inside a room can escape those four walls, travel through the air, birth gods and monsters, and bring us myth.”
In this powerful Onassis Stegi autumn highlight, no rock or chain keep Prometheus bound. Everything takes place inside a house. A house-cum-meteorite hanging in space-time, engulfed by the four natural elements, who all reside there like a family, making worlds.
“Prometheus represents you and me and everyone, in that moment where we look upon the reality of life and it looks back at us,” says Karathanos. This is his second dalliance with ancient Greek drama (his take on Aristophanes’ “Birds” premiered at the 2016 Athens and Epidaurus Festival); and you'll be able to follow the action with English sub-titles. “There is something so very ancient inside every human being that makes time bend away in shame," he concludes.
