Qi Baishi "The Mysterious Far East"
One of the most acclaimed modern Chinese painters, came from a poor peasant family, trained as a carpenter and taught himself to paint using a manual from the era of the Qing dynasty. If that's not enough to get you to this exhibit, there's more. One of Qi Baishi's paintings went for $141 million at an auction, making it the highest selling Chinese painting in history. Delicate brushstrokes and extreme attention to detail characterise his work, as he painted landscapes, flowers, small animals using bold colours, always remaining free of Western influences in his work. Come see some legendary tradition that comes to Greece for the first time.
