Release Athens Festival 2024: Pulp, The Smile, Ride
We are all Common People under the Britpop sun. Release Festival welcomes one of the genre's defining bands, Pulp. Their early music leaned towards post-punk and indie-pop, but their sound soon evolved to incorporate disco, glam-rock and electronic elements. Jarvis Cocker's charismatic stage presence and witty lyrics have inspired generations of musicians to follow suit and have also ensured that Pulp remain relevant up to this day.
Co-headliners of the day are The Smile, a musical project featuring Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, and Tom Skinner, drummer extraordinaire of the phenomenal jazz-punk band Sons of Kemet.
Fellow British rock band Ride will also perform on the same day, contributing to making it one of the most promising concert nights in Athens this summer. The great shoegazers from Oxford will release their upcoming seventh album this March, so we’ll also be treated to brand new tunes. Rotterdam’s rising post-punkers Tramhaus complete the day’s line-up.
