Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny
The Greek National Opera presents a fresh take on Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht's classic, Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny. The 20th-century opera is a wild ride through a city built on profit and pleasure. Set in Germany's interwar Weimar Republic, the work delves deep into political satire, criticising the capitalist system. Weill's music, which includes hits such as Alabama Song, blends a variety of genres from jazz to ragtime to achieve its unique flair. Nearly a century after its creation, Mahagonny still feels relevant, tackling themes of financial crisis and the looming spectre of fascism. With an all-star cast of Greek talent and the artistic vision of director Yannis Houvardas, this six-show run promises to be nothing short of spectacular.
