Robert Stadler: OMG-GMO
A watermelon stool. Wheel-like aubergines that act as coffee table legs. A zucchini shaped like a shelf bracket. Spotted the theme yet? It’s fruits and vegetables as functional items, and it’s the latest play by Robert Stadler at the Carwan Gallery. The design-focused art space commissioned the project OMG-GMO to the Austria-born and Paris-based designer in partnership with BITOSSI Ceramiche. Stadler spent two years creating his “whimsical ceramic functional objects” and the outstanding ceramists at BITOSSI meticulously replicated every detail in terms of colour and texture. The commentary here is rather clear, or so we think; it’s on how we tend to manipulate nature in every way possible. The artist's critical perspective on what we consume and how we live in a (un)natural environment is displayed in a creative and playful exhibition at one of Piraeus' most loved galleries.
