Sakis Papadimitriou in concert
Sakis Papadimitriou is a living legend of jazz music both in Greece and internationally. From 1975 to 2010, he hosted his own radio shows on the Third Programme, the public radio station of Greece's state broadcaster that focuses on classical music and culture, and generations of Greeks grew up listening to him.
An all-around restless spirit, he’s performed across the world, written works of poetry and fiction, and has never stopped playing his beloved jazz.
“Jazz entered my life by listening. I hadn't studied music. I listened and tried to copy what I liked […] I get asked “who did you play with?” I answer with a laugh “With Miles Davis and everyone else.” I would put on their records, listen and play with them at home. It was an apprenticeship.” [credit: interview at Parallaximag.gr, 2021]
Now in his early eighties, he still performs with zest and freshness. Enjoy his improvisations for one magical night at the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron).
