Shigeru Umebayashi at Herodeion
Shigeru Umebayashi started out as leader and bass player in a Japanese rock band and when it disbanded in the 80's he turned his attention to film music. A decade later he was internationally acclaimed. Ume, as he prefers to be called, has dedicated his talent for composing music to Asian cinematography and is widely known for the soundtracks of movies such as In The Mood For Love (2000), House Of Flying Daggers (2004), Curse Of The Golden Flower (2006) and A Single Man (2009). He also composed the music for The Everlasting Flame: Beijing 2008, the official documentary of the Beijing Olympics. For one enchanting night only, the work of this Japanese master of sound will be performed by the 40-member Athens Philharmonia Orchestra at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
