The Roots of Gazi
The Roots of Gazi festival brings history to life through music, theatre, and visual arts. Hosted at Technopolis by the collective RIZES (meaning "roots" in Greek) and the Industrial Gas Museum, this event explores the stories of the old gas factory and its workers—many of them migrants who shaped the culture of Gazi.
Expect interactive art installations, folklore-inspired performances, and live music in a setting that draws inspiration from the factory’s elements—fire, water, coal, and light—along with the memories preserved through time. Artists will engage with the site’s architecture and history, creating works that bridge past and present.
Wander through theatrical reenactments, listen to traditional songs, and experience a revival of customs that once defined this vivid Athenian neighbourhood. The night closes with an island-style procession, echoing a ritual once held by factory workers to honour their retiring colleagues.
The Roots of Gazi is the first chapter of RIZES STORIZ, a new storytelling project connecting past and present.
