Athens Epidaurus Festival 2022: Tosca
This season it seems that the Athens Epidaurus Festival has decided to show its hand one card at a time. After Verdis’ Rigoletto, Tosca has landed on the table as the festival’s season finale, an operatic thriller that is especially loved by the Greeks (Maria Callas played the title role in its Greek debut back in 1942). The plot follows the self-absorbed opera diva Tosca, as she struggles with love, jealousy and friendship (haven’t we all?) and is led to face a dreadful dilemma when she follows her instincts. Prominent Greek and international soloists perform in the lead roles at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus to celebrate the closure of what looks to be another ripping festival season.
