Dimitris Papaioannou: Transverse Orientation
Dimitris Papaioannou has been hailed by Le Figaro as one of the four most important choreographers in the world; and “a master of contradictions,” by The Guardian.
The New York Times described his new production, Transverse Orientation, as “a long act of artistic magic created before our eyes”.
Enticed? This genre-defying dance spectacle featuring brooding minotaurs (and other optical illusions rooted in Greek myth) is currently warming the prestigious boards of Sadler Wells in London. But Athenian audiences will soon get their chance to see it at Onassis Stegi in December, one year later than intended (thanks to the pandemic).
Here’s a taster of what to expect:
“My works evolve during rehearsal, they are not composed beforehand,” says Papaioannou. “I prepare material only in order to kickstart the process – and most of the time, I throw it out.”
“Art is praxis. If I talk about it, I will only either mislead you or betray the work.”
Transverse Orientation is advised for audiences 18+. We'll keep you posted about how and when to snap up those tickets.
