Trifles and Troupes. Everything Lies Under the Surface
The Blender Gallery, tucked away in Athens’ southern suburbs, is known for its sleek, minimalist vibe and for being a hidden gem for contemporary art (amidst all those private parties). Their latest group exhibition, Trifles and Troupes | Everything Lies Under the Surface, takes inspiration from Siegfried Kracauer’s idea that it’s not the big events but the “tiny catastrophes” of daily life that truly shape us.
This thought-provoking show dives into the overlooked moments of our everyday lives—those little gestures, habits, and fleeting memories that often go unnoticed but carry surprising weight. From personal diaries to quirky collections and temporary archives, the exhibition turns the spotlight on the seemingly trivial to show how these “trifles” can reveal deeper truths about who we are.
With works that blend harm and healing, distraction and delight, the artists invite us to rethink what we consider significant. They ask: What lies beneath the surface of the ordinary? How can the smallest details tell the biggest stories? Playful, insightful, and a little bit bold, this exhibition celebrates the beauty of life’s little moments—messy, mysterious, and meaningful.
