¡Viva España! at Olympia Music Theatre
Get ready for a taste of Spain, in the heart of Athens! The Olympia Music Theatre has announced a series of events that will offer much more than just a taste of the remarkable Mediterranean country.
First up, the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Andreas Tselikas, will grace the stage with a concert celebrating the rich Spanish tradition. From the sizzling rhythms of Manuel de Falla's El Amor Brujo to the charming melodies of Rimski-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol, there are plenty of iberian offerings to go around. Definitely don't miss out on the elegance of zarzuela, Madrit's signature musical theatre genre, featuring baritone Pablo Galvéz. (10/02)
Next, award-winning choreographer Marcos Morau and his company La Veronal take the stage with Sonoma, a compelling dance performance that delves into the roots and essence of the human body, inspired by the dreamy world of Luis Buñuel. (27-28/02)
But the Spanish celebration doesn't stop there! Tenor and soprano saxophonist Bernard van Rossum joins forces with the Athens Big Band to redefine flamenco in a dynamic fusion of sound. (25/04)
The Athens Municipal Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to French composers' love of Spanish music with Édouard Lalo's Spanish Symphony and some of Georges Bizet's iconic Carmen suites, where the dance element dominates. To top it all off, don't miss the world premiere of the new work by the talented Stathis Gyftakis. (18/05)
