WOMEN, Together
The National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens is celebrating women's art this season with a series of group and solo exhibitions honouring pioneering female artists.
With a bold statement on the under-representation of women in the art world, EMST is shaking up the art scene. To address gender inequality, two female curators, Katerina Gregos and Eleni Koukou, present an exhibition that focuses exclusively on the work of women artists from the museum's collection. Despite the lack of a specific narrative, visitors will find conceptual and aesthetic similarities. Τhe participating artists have all contemplated on a variety of themes related to gender and identity, social and political issues, and traces of these themes can be found in most of the works on display. The exhibition is the first rehang of the museum's collection and includes 49 works by 25 artists of different generations, ten of whom are Greek.
