Folklore Exhibition at the Benaki Museum
With its showstopping colours and intricate details, the doulamas was born to be on stage. Little wonder that this traditional costume worn in the Western Balkans during the Ottoman Empire came to be the calling card for leading Greek costume designer Ioanna Papantoniou. Admire some of her theatrical interpretations of the doulamas overcoat for the National Theatre of Greece as well as different local variations. The exhibition also traces the impact of this eye-catching garment on contemporary fashion.
