Stefanos Rokos: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
If you’re at all familiar with the musical outpourings of Nick Cave, you’ll easily understand how the indie rock god’s brooding compositions might cast a lasting spell. For Greek artist Stefanos Rokos, they inspired a whole exhibition’s worth of poetic paintings. Nearly 15 years after Rokos listened to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ 2001 comeback album—No More Shall We Part—the contemporary Athenian painter finally purged himself of the “images that had formed inside him”. He created fourteen paintings, inspired by the number of tracks on the album, and published them as an artistic book. See his treatise on the dialectical bond that can exist between painting and songwriting in a high-impact exhibition at the Benaki Museum.
