Tectonics Athens 2019
For three days, Onassis Stegi will host legendary artists and musicians from around the world on stage with the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra, creating brand-new site-specific pieces through improvisation. This festival comes to the city via Israeli conductor Ilan Volkov for a second year; he aims to "redefine the role of the Symphonic Orchestra in the 21st century while bringing together various ways of making music." Volkov began this festival in 2012 in Iceland, where the tectonic plates of Asia, Europe, and North America all meet, and he promises to continue challenging barriers between musical genres and forms.
