Melina Mercouri: Remember me and Love me
2020 marked the 100th anniversary since the birth of one of the most influential figures in the history of contemporary Greece. Melina Mercouri, or simply Melina for the Greeks, was a woman who could, and did, do everything: a celebrated actress, a marvelous singer and a fierce politician and activist who, amongst her many achievements, also launched the campaign for the repatriation of the Parthenon marbles. An exhibition celebrating the life and work of "the last Greek Goddess" was scheduled for 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic. Technopolis and the Melina Mercouri Cultural Centre have renewed their plans and the "Melina Mercouri: Remember me and Love me" exhibition is on again.
Curated by distinguished archaeologist and Museum of Cycladic Art director, Nikolaos Kaltsas, the exhibition touches on Mercouri's life and career in cinema, the theatre and politics with never before seen photographic and audiovisual material, costumes, movie posters, memorabilia and documents that include personal letters to figures like Romy Schneider, Sir Laurence Olivier and Joan Crawford.
Technopolis operates under the latest measures against the spread of COVID-19. You can read more about the current rules and measures in Athens here.
