Waste/d Pavilion: Episode 1
Hip Koukaki is not all about trendy brunch spots and design stores. The creative crowd at the foothills of the Acropolis can also get pretty deep. Case in point, the people over at State of Concept, the trademark non-profit gallery/art institution of the neighbourhood.
In collaboration with the Temporary Academy of Arts, who will be taking over the gallery's artistic directorship for a whole year, the two teams present Waste/d Pavilion, a social documentation of life through art, split into episodes. Waste/d Pavilion’s first episode, to run until May 21, is a precursor and indicator of the initiative’s bleak nature: war, climate change, new forms of oppression and exploitation are being addressed. Not your average palatable stuff, especially if you take into consideration that the artwork/medium is real life testimonies of everyday workers. The results pack quite a powerful punch; trust us, we’ve attended. Lots of video and reading material are on display, so make sure you have the time - and brain matter- to spare. Those hip Koukaki bars are waiting to lighten the mood afterwards.
