August Full Moon at Athenian Museums
Full moon nights in August have an otherworldly touch - not the kind that gets you howling at the moon. As Athens unwinds during August and the city empties, the main event is not one where human bodies take the stage, but one where a celestial one does. The August full moon is a long tradition for Athens, when museums and cultural venues take part in celebrating our nightly orb with various events - and a hint of Dionysian mysticism. On the very night of the August full moon, Friday 12 August 2022, several museums will remain open from morning until well into the night, with free admission during a set timeframe.
The Acropolis Museum offers an open to all live concert performed by the Hellenic Air Force Band, in the museum’s entrance courtyard at 9 pm. You will be able to visit the museum for free from 9 pm until midnight. The restaurant will be open during the same hours. You’d want to make a reservation at 210 900 0915.
The National Archaeological Museum joins the summer tradition with free entrance in the evening and the promise of lively activities.
The Numismatic Museum hosts a Greek music concert in its charming courtyard. Reach out to the museum’s cafe to make a reservation at 210 361 0067.
Watch this space as more events regarding the August full moon will be announced.
