1st Independent Film Festival of Athens
Greece has been a hub of fresh and daring cinema for a while now. You’ve most likely heard of Greek Weird Wave and Yorgos Lanthimos but there’s a lot more brewing. Organised by KINO Athens, the 1st ever Independent Film Festival of Athens enters the field with a strong mission to focus on “unusual films that challenge their viewers”. Over four days, and at two different locations, IFFA holds screenings, Q&As and talks that aim to build a community of film creators and cinephiles. The international competition is divided into two separate categories for short films and feature films with entries from all around the world, such as films produced in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Italy and Belgium. For its first edition, IFFA pays tribute to Greek director Anna Vasof. Architect and media artist Vasof, who will be present at the festival, has received numerous awards for her experimental films and has developed her own film creation method called “Non-Stop Stop-Motion”, that explores the boundaries between stop motion techniques and cinematography.
