John Bicknell and Erika Winstone: Host
Located in an apartment on the 7th-floor near the Panathenaic Stadium, FokiaNou Art Space is an artist-run gallery that hosts some of the city’s most promising exhibitions. Its latest arrival is Host, a two-person collaborative art show by Athens-based artist John Bicknell and London-based artist Erika Winstone. The creative seed for Host was planted during a self-initiated residency on the island of Folegandros, where Biknell invited Winstone to work with him. Winstone will return the favour during the second part of the residency that will take place in her studio in London, where she and Biknell will work on their Greek-born ideas for their next exhibition.
Biknell’s abstract and figurative paintings are separated in three themes: “Folegandros Watercolours 2023”, “Ghost flowers”, and “Land and Work”. He also presents the “Citizens” installation, inspired by photos of Athens and its people. Winstone presents paintings and an installation based on her new film Hover, based on her filming of Easter celebrations while in Folegandros.
