On-line: Exit Spring
It was the lost season. Contained to our homes and neighbourhoods, Spring skipped straight past us this year: absent the ripe bloom of live arts and culture that usually heralds summertime in Athens. The Greek National Opera (GNO) offers a “digital” closure to our lost spring through an uplifting line-up of free music, dance, opera and theatrical video performances, created during the pandemic. All 11 performances of their first Online Festival EXIT: SPRING revolve around the themes of the anticipation of spring, nature’s rebirth, and the coming of the new. Choose from Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, featuring the GNO Ballet, a life-affirming concert by the GNO children’s choir, or a contemporary reprisal of the Appalachian Spring, a 1944 landmark music and dance dialogue by Martha Graham and Aaron Copland. Browse the programme here for streaming times and platforms. Each performance will be available to view for a set interval afterwards.
