Nordic Urban Lab
For most people, it's hard to see the bigger picture of a city's landscape, with all its faults and complications. We mostly walk our way through the urban fabric, wishing for our cities to become more liveable and friendly. Fortunately, there are those who dream big for us. Nordic Urban Lab is a platform for artists, designers, architects and planners who are interested in alternative integrated approaches to urban development. Its 4th edition is taking place in Athens, at Serafio, the Municipality's Contemporary Centre for Sports, Culture and Innovation. This online two-day seminar will kick-off a Greek-Nordic dialogue on the role of art and culture relation to creating open, vibrant and sustainable cities. A total of 36 speakers (18 Greek, 18 Nordic) will talk about common challenges across borders and cultures, and how we can learn from each other's experiences.
The seminar will include four themes; Culture and Urbanism, Cities and Citizenship, Reviving Communities and Neighbourhoods, Artistic Practice in the Urban Context. You can read more on the themes here. There will also be themed walks in Athenian neighbourhoods on Sunday 11 October from 11.00-18.00 with live streaming every hour on the hour.
All sessions are free and you can sign up by sending an e-mail at [email protected]. Nordic Urban Lab Athens is organized by HeterArt in collaboration with SynAthina, the School of Applied Arts of the Hellenic Open University, KROMA and Athens Digital Lab, with the support of the Nordic Culture Fund, Ministry of Culture, Municipality of Athens and the Embassies of Scandinavian Countries in Greece.
