City of Athens Lycabettus Theatre Reopening with Stavros Xarchakos
The arrival of autumn brings exciting news for the city of Athens. Following a complete revamp, the historic open-air theatre of Lycabettus, which has previously hosted a great array of memorable Greek and international music performances, reopens after a period of 15 years. The theatre’s design is still based on the original by renowned architect Takis Zenetos (and if the name sounds familiar you are not mistaken; he was in charge of the first restoration of the emblematic building of the National Museum of Contemporary Art). Lycabettus theatre now comes with a full upgrade of its facilities. New seats (3,950 of them to be exact), new lighting, a new canteen, reinforced structural support, and state-of-the-art safety and communication systems. One of the most beloved concert venues of the Athenians, the renovated cultural centre will celebrate its grand re-opening with a live concert by one of the great masters of Greek music, Stavros Xarchakos. The rich programme of the new season lasts until mid-October. Enjoy the stunning views of Athens from atop Lycabettus Hill while listening to music that appeals to the heart of every citizen of the world.
