The Restoration of Optimism
The City of Athens continues to commemorate two pivotal anniversaries—80 years since its liberation from Nazi occupation and 50 years since the restoration of democracy—with the poignantly titled exhibition The Restoration of Optimism. Curated by Viktoria Zygourou, Kostas Nikakis, and Stacey Ventoura, the exhibition showcases a carefully selected range of paintings, engravings, sculptures, and mixed-media works from the gallery’s permanent collection, alongside contemporary pieces. As part of the city’s commemorative events, 1974 & 1944: Athens Celebrates its Freedom the exhibition explores themes of democracy, resistance, and dialogue, within a postmodern context that invites reflection and renewed hope.
The gallery will also host music events and talks, offering a multidisciplinary perspective on Greece’s turbulent yet resilient journey through the twentieth century.
