Athens Guides Visitors Towards Better Enjoying the City
Believe the hype. Athens is on the rise nonstop. Year after year, an increasing number of visitors get to discover and experience the well-known thrills and hidden gems of our city. And we can see why; the Greek capital offers an irresistible mix of slow living luxury, authenticity, and unmatched philoxenia (hospitality, turning strangers into friends) all year round. For Athens to keep doing what it does best and preserve the philos (friend) in philoxenia, the time has come for us to think ahead and advise you on how we can better enjoy Athens together.
This is Athens, the Official Visitors Guide to Athens, and the City of Athens announce their latest initiative titled “Let’s Athens Together”. Our new summer campaign calls upon visitors to the city to sync up with the locals, opt for sustainability, and even play their own part in making sure that the Athens experience remains pure for future travellers.
By communicating four key messages, our latest outdoor campaign “Let’s Athens Together” appeals to both well-seasoned and first-time travellers who are already in Athens exploring our streets. These four messages come in the form of local-sourced tips with a double intent; to showcase the authentic Athens summer experience, and to provide conscious guidance so that visitors can connect with local places, people, and communities in an appreciative manner. These days, a walk in any neighbourhood in Athens will bring you face to face with one of our four friendly pieces of advice:
- “Anafiotika is lovely. It’s also residential, so be a good neighbour.” We know some of you may not be aware of this, so we’re just putting it out there.
- “Go to the National Garden for your Instagram. Stay for its biodiversity.” Sure, you’ve posed under the palm trees for your Insta. But, have you mingled with the local flora and fauna?
- “Let the sun shine, not burn. Wear sunscreen.” - We can tell you forgot to pack it. Whether exploring the Historic Centre or beach-hopping along the Riviera, the sun in Athens burns the same.
- “It’s not the movie, it’s the experience. See you at an open-air cinema.” You say Marvel thrills, multiplex and Dolby Atmos, we say Hitchcock scares, jasmine trees and cicada chirps.
The City of Athens is intent on adapting to the new travelling reality of our times by adopting a sustainable and responsible mindset that taps into the driving force of the tourism industry—the need to connect with people and places we have never considered—while remaining considerate towards both visitors and local residents. So we can all Athens together.
