Athens as a Hub for International Scientific Events – September 2024

In September 2024, Athens demonstrated its growing reputation as a premier destination for international scientific conferences by hosting three significant events. These gatherings, covering acarology, endocrinology, and sustainable agriculture, showcased the city’s capacity to facilitate impactful discussions across diverse scientific fields. AFEA Congress played a vital role in organizing and supporting these events, further cementing Athens’ status in the global meetings industry.
The first of these conferences, the 10th EurAAc Symposium, was held from September 2-6, 2024, at the Agricultural University of Athens. Leading acarologists convened to discuss vital topics such as Agricultural and Forestry Acarology, Medical and Veterinary Acarology, and Biological Control and Integrated Pest Management. As the official Professional Congress Organizer (PCO), AFEA Congress was proud to contribute to advancing research in these specialized areas. We thank the president of EurAAc and Chairman of the Symposium, Anastasia Tsagkarakou, for her trust!

Immediately following, the 46th Annual Meeting of the European Thyroid Association took place from September 7-10, 2024, at the historic and innovative Athens Conservatoire, a place of great cultural significance and a hub for music and creativity. This prestigious event gathered thyroid specialists from across Europe to share the latest developments in thyroid disorders. AFEA Congress, serving as the Local PCO, in collaboration with the Host Organization and the Chair of the Meeting and Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, Mr Leonida Toundas facilitated collaboration in this critical area of public health, fostering meaningful exchanges that could impact future medical breakthroughs. The attendees and the speakers of the event were an active component of the Meeting’s success with a vibrant energy and thought-provoking conversations and speeches on the topic of Thyroid research.

Rounding out the month, from September 23-26, 2024, the I International Symposium on Protected Cultivation, Nettings, and Screens for Mild Climates was hosted once again at the Agricultural University of Athens. This symposium underscored the importance of sustainable agriculture, with a focus on protective cultivation methods designed to reduce water consumption and chemical inputs while improving crop resilience. AFEA Congress was honored to organize this essential dialogue, which addressed innovative solutions to pressing global sustainability challenges. We thank the president of the Symposium, Professor Dimitrios Savvas and Assoc. Prof. Thomas Bartzanas for their excellent collaboration throughout the organizational process of this international event.

These conferences not only highlight Athens’ capability to host impactful scientific events but also reflect the city’s growing prominence as a hub for international scientific knowledge exchange.
