AEF2024: Loreena McKennitt
The Athens Epidaurus Festival (AEF) is gearing up for a spectacular 2024 edition with 85 days filled with sheer artistic brilliance. From June 1 to August 24, AEF will transform iconic venues across Athens and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus into stages for 93 productions featuring over 2,500 artists from around the world. The Athens leg of the festival concludes on the last day of July, while in August the action moves to Epidaurus, where eager locals pilgrimage for their annual rendezvous with Greek tragedy. Following her unforgettable concerts in 2019, music lovers are buzzing with excitement over Loreena McKennitt's much-anticipated return to Greece. The acclaimed Canadian singer and composer, known for her captivating blend of world music and folk traditions from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean, is back to sprinkle some musical stardust on a summer night at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Athens is McKennitt's first stop on her European tour which celebrates the 30th anniversary of her iconic album, The Mask and Mirror. A masterpiece that fuses Celtic, Spanish and Moroccan influences. The first set will feature beloved "fan favourites", while the second will include every track from the aforementioned album. Joining McKennitt on stage are her esteemed musical companions: Caroline Lavelle on cello, Brian Hughes on guitar, Hugh Marsh on violin, Dudley Phillips on bass, and Robert Brian on drums.
