Africa Amongst us*
Greece’s diaspora has long shaped the country’s cultural, economic, and social landscape, with heritage and identity passed down across generations and borders. In contemporary Greece, diasporic communities are increasingly reclaiming their narratives, exploring themes of identity, representation, justice, and belonging.
This participatory exhibition at the Benaki Museum gives voice and visibility to Afro-diasporic communities. Inspired by a recent donation of African objects from Nigeria, Cameroon, and Kenya, the exhibition was created by and for over 30 community members in collaboration with the ANASA Cultural Centre. Through artworks, archival materials, personal objects, and powerful testimonies, it highlights the richness of African, Greek African, and Pan-African heritage.
More than 30 events—including performances, workshops, discussions, and a pop-up exhibition—further expand the experience, inviting visitors to engage with the evolving dialogue on identity and belonging in Greece today.
