Anonymous Paths
Fear. Upheaval. Change. Uncertainty. The end of a way of life as we knew it.
No, this is not about the pandemic. Although Covid’s dark cloud could not have materialised at a crueller time for a Greece that was just emerging into the light of economic recovery.
In “Anonymous Paths, a Personal View of Greece 2007-2017,” photographer Panagiotis Sotiropoulos presents a series of images that depicts a country in transition as Greece was plunged into a decade-long financial crisis that threatened to see it expelled from the European Union.
While not referencing the crisis directly, the artist explores the notion of loss by addressing “the before, the during and the after”.
Hatch a plan to see "Anonymous Paths" at the Benaki Museum’s contemporary Pireos Street premises in Gazi, and linger afterwards to explore this ultra-happening Athenian precinct, lined with cool bars, flirty cafes and culture hubs.
