The Artist on the Composer: Ioanna Pantazopoulou
The Artist on the Composer programme commissioned the artist Ioanna Pantazopoulou to create an immersive installation consisting of 135 sculptures, inviting audiences to discover a dreamy, fairytale-like world. For the first time, Pantazopoulou's art will harmonise with music, specifically to a score suggested by Georgios Koumentakis, art director of the Greek National Opera.
This marks the third iteration of The Artist on the Composer, with artist Nikos Navridis and award-winning film director Yorgos Lanthimos as participants of the two previous years. The pioneering programme, run by the Greek National Opera in collaboration with NEON, connects contemporary artists with classical music and opera in an aim to forge new wholes. Pantazopoulou, who lives and works in New York, creates ephemeral large scale sculptures out of unusual materials (reclaimed manufacturing equipment, out-of-print bills, toilet rolls, and bikini tops amongst other stuff) that tell a story of organised chaos. A favourite among local audiences, tickets for this series normally sell out fast. So look out for them if you don't want to miss the chance to experience this collaboration up close.
