AEF2023: Gilberto Gil and Family
It’s that time of the year again, when Athenians start planning their summer holidays around the programme of the Athens Epidaurus Festival. The leading performing arts festival in Greece, and one of the oldest in Europe, returns between June 1st and August 26th for its 68th edition with a rich programme of events. As always, the main venues are the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the industrial complex of Pireos 260 and the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. Gilberto Gil is nothing if not international. With a career spanning over 60 years—as a pioneer of Tropicalia and Afro-Brazilian music, as an advocate for the environment, and as Brazil’s Minister of Culture—Gil has left a profound impression on global culture. The celebrated singer, songwriter and cultural icon visits Athens as a guest of the Athens Epidaurus Festival, for a night of remembrance, spellbinding quality and smooth grooves. He will be accompanied on stage by a group of musicians from his extended family, as part of his global farewell tour.
